Nothing rings in the new year like a stress fracture!
My last run was on the 23rd while in Georgia visiting my Dad. I got in to the doc once we got back in town, and he confirmed what my sweetie pumpkin had been warning me would happen!
Oh well! Once I get my 6 weeks rest in, I'll probably start back up the podrunner series. Maybe there will be another streak attempt in the future!

A first
http://bit.ly/5sLv4D
I actually felt good running tonight.
My wife was back in town after being gone for a week, so in the last 7 days or so, I've been running around in circles so I don't get too far from my kids. I think a combination of her being back in town, and getting to run outside on a trail made for a good run!
It was cold, but not beardcicle cold, and there was no strong wind.
I wish I felt like this for every run! I'd probably sign up for another race or something!
On a side note,
I was feeling a little buyers remorse after spending almost $40 on a _small_ bottle of Balsamic Vinegar. It finally arrived and I sampled a bit this evening. Wow! This stuff is amazing. This is not your Walmart vinegar, this would seriously be good enough for a dessert topping. I actually tried a bit on a spoonful of ice cream, and YUM! My remorse has shifted, and now I wish I had got more. This would be an amazing gift to any foodie.

beard icicles
I added a link to "My Runs" to the right. No need to make a new link every day.
Its cold outside! My kids made fun of my beard icicles.

running on snow
It was 9 degrees out tonight, and there was snow on the ground. Nobody had been on the path I took, and so every step I made in the snow made that squeaky crunch sound. Some people like that sound. For me, its like fingernails on the chalkboard. Every step sent chills down my spine! I ended up getting off the trail and running in the weeds just to keep the horrible snow noise away!

Paula Radcliffe
http://bit.ly/5KWpJW
I had a long day at the office today, so when I got home, I just put on the sweatpants, and sprinted around the block a few times till my Nike+ told me I had gone a little over a mile. At the end of the run, a European female voice came on and congratulated me for achieving my personal best time for a mile. Turns out it was Paula Radcliffe, and she just wanted to hack into my iPhone and tell me how awesome I was.
I wonder why she didn't call to say anything yesterday when Nike+ said I ran a 6:45 minute mile? If you look at yesterday's graph, it shows a real drastic up and down pace, but I stayed pretty steady the whole time. I think I should probably start using gmap pedometer to calibrate each run to make sure I'm not "cheating" myself.
Oh well, thanks anyway Paula!

ugh
http://bit.ly/8MuCP8
Its amazing the difference two months makes. In a few weeks I'll be back to normal. Now its labored breathing, burning lungs, singing knees, and constant phlegm buildup!
I always wondered why people spit when they run. Now I know. Heavy mouth breathing leads to phlegm buildup, which leads to gagging amounts of mucus, till I either spit or choke.
Hows that for the joy of running?
